New City Moving's Packing Tips - Home Office
A home office will almost certainly include important papers, such as legal paperwork and these should first be set aside so you can personally take them with you. On the High Value Inventory list you should add any computer equipment and other items that have a value of more than $100 / pound in order to receive the correct coverage.
- PC, printer, scanner and any other equipment
- Back-up all files on the computer using DVDs or other storage media
- Disconnect all the wires and cables
- Mark all the wires and cables so that it will be easy to assemble them later
- Remove all ink cartridges and toner
- Remove paper holders and feeders from printers, put protective wrapping around monitors and other hardware just as you would for other electronic devices
- Refer to the PC's user manual for more instructions and precautionary measures
Books
- Books that are about the same size should be packed together in small book cartons.
- Books should be packed so that they are flat or have the spine on the bottom of the box, because if the spine is facing up then the glue can break off from the binder.
- Any expensive or important books with value should first be wrapped individually and then packed.
Office Furniture
If you have modular furniture for the office then it will have to be taken apart before the day of the move comes. Tape can be used to mark where the individual pieces go and that makes it easier to put everything together again. The hardware, such as drawer pulls and screws, should be kept together in one spot. Ideal for this is a plastic bag or coffee can.
